Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong was elected to serve Ward 5 in Nov. 2024, and sworn into office on Dec. 4, 2024.
Summers-Armstrong is a dedicated public servant and longtime advocate for the vibrant and diverse communities of Ward 5 in Las Vegas. This unique region spans culturally significant and historic areas like Fremont Street, the Biltmore Neighborhood and Historic West Las Vegas, as well as parts of the Northwest Rural Preservation Area.
As a Nevada Assemblywoman, Summers-Armstrong represented District 6, which includes much of Ward 5 and portions of North Las Vegas. First elected in 2020, she served in the 81st (2021) and 82nd (2023) Nevada Legislative sessions, as well as three special sessions. During her tenure, she was an active member of the Judiciary, Growth and Infrastructure, Revenue and Health and Human Services Committees. She championed legislation focused on economic development, healthcare access, eviction reform and affordable housing.
Her passion for service began long before her time in elected office. She served as a West Las Vegas Plan Team member, commissioner for the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority, commissioner on the Southern Nevada Enterprise Community Board and member of the Stop the F Street Closure Coalition.
Her career in public service started in 1993 as a judicial assistant to Judge Addeliar D. Guy III at the Clark County Eighth Judicial District Court. After Judge Guy’s retirement in 1996, she joined the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, where she served for 26 years, ultimately working as a management analyst in the Streets and Highways Department.
Born in Northern California, she has called Nevada home for 35 years, with the last 25 years spent in the heart of West Las Vegas. She and her husband, Karl Armstrong, have been happily married for 30 years. Together, they share three sons—Brandon, Dexter and Kieran—and are proud grandparents to their granddaughter, Ella.
