Lead-Based Paint

About Lead Hazards

Families living in homes built prior to 1978 are likely to be exposed to lead hazards. These hazards include: lead-based paint, lead contaminated dust and soil. Exposure to lead can cause serious health problems, particularly in young children. Their smaller, growing bodies make them more susceptible to absorbing and retaining lead. Lead poisoning is often not diagnosed until moderate or severe symptoms appear. The good news is that you can protect your family from lead poisoning.

About the Program

The Department of Neighborhood Services was awarded a 48-month grant by the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) to help develop cost-effective ways to reduce lead-based paint hazards in homes built prior to 1978 with children under the age of 6. The goal of this program is to create lead-safe and healthy housing in Las Vegas and reduce the incidence of childhood lead poisoning. This program is free to eligible households.
